Ridiculously Simple Color Changing Unicorn Lemonade With Sparkles

Keep cool this summer with our super simple, magically sparkling color-changing twist on everyone’s favorite drink!

To make our shimmering Unicorn lemonade you will need:

  • ¼ cup butterfly pea flower blossoms
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • Shimmering edible glitter in silver
  • Shimmering edible glitter in violet
  • Lemonade
  • Ice

The first thing you need to do is to steep your butterfly pea flowers in your boiling water for at least an hour.  As they steep, the water will turn from pale blue to a deep indigo.

Strain out your flowers and discard them.

Sprinkle the top of your butterfly pea flower liquid with your shimmering edible glitter in silver and violet.  Gently mix in.

Carefully pour the butterfly pea flower liquid into an ice tray and freeze solid.

When you’re ready to make your Unicorn Lemonade, fill the first 2/3 of your glass with regular clear ice.

Pour in your lemonade, filling your glass about 2/3 full.

Spoon your bright blue/purple butterfly pea flower ice cubes on top of your regular cubes.

Fill the rest of your glass up with your lemonade and watch the magic!

As the pea flower ice cubes melt, the naturally occurring anthocyanin within the liquid reacts with the acid of the lemonade and turns it a bright, vibrant pink!  In addition, as the cubes melt, they release their shimmering powder, creating a dazzling drink that fades from electric blue to bright pink to mellow yellow.
